THIS WEEK AT ANGIER

  • May 4 – May 8 – Faculty/Staff Appreciation Week
  • May 6 – Pride Club Meeting (12:20-1pm)
  • May 8 – Principal/PTO Coffee, after drop-off

Dear Angier Families,

What a week it has been! We had a very exciting event at Angier this week–the author Jerry Craft visited the school and students had a great time.

Angier was buzzing with activity, and so many thank you’s are in order. Thank you to Arun Biswas, Hina Kaleem, Victoria Trevino, and Linkan Ray for putting on such an amazing event–World Cultures night. Thank you to Francesco Iacovitti for a wonderful Italian dinner, and thank you to all of our volunteers who made this event a success by sharing pieces of your culture with all of us. On Sunday morning, our school was treated to a wonderful clean up, led by Lesa Huynh, Susie Salcetti, Cheryl Jakielo, Stephanie Wrobel, and Amy Quach. Thank you to all of you and all the volunteers who came to help make the school so beautiful! And our final event of the weekend – the community day of play. Thank you to all attendees, from Angier parents, students, teachers, former teachers, and Angier alumni–we appreciate you coming and being a part of this wonderful event to bring us all together.

The Angier BINS have started! Thank you to Eric Smookler for hosting the Angier dad’s shopping BIN. Thank you to Morgan Maeder, Amy Levin, and Luke & Jen Stein for organizing the parent-child hip hop class. Thank you to Lena Germand & Brigid Tobin for heading up the Angier Night at the New England Revolution match. And thank you to Ritika Singh, Ann Stanberry & Zena Gehchan for hosting a charming afternoon tea.

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE (May 17)
Break out your Angier colors and walking shoes – it’s parade time!  Students and families are invited to join all the Newton Public School in marching in the Memorial Day Parade on May 17th from 3-5pm!  Show your school spirit by walking together as a community, then celebrate at the finish with a well-earned ice cream treat!  We will also need several parade parents/caregivers to walk alongside our students. We will meet at city hall, exact location TBD! Sign up here and we hope to see you there!

20th Annual Waban Village Day and Family Fun Run – Sunday, May 17
Please save the date for the 20th Annual Waban Village Day and Family Fun Run – Sunday, May 17th from 10:00am – 2:00pm. These family-friendly events will be kicked off by the Fun Run at 10:00am and continue throughout the day in Waban Square with rides and amusements for kids of all ages, vendor tables and live music. Food will be available for purchase from local Newton favorite, Che! Empanada and Cool Cow Ice Cream. Racers of all ages are encouraged to participate in the Fun Run, including children who are permitted to ride bikes and scooters along the racecourse. Walkers and those with strollers are also welcome. We will stick with the new Fun Run route we rolled out last year to avoid high-traffic areas and create a safer, more spacious experience for all participants. The main route is about 1.7 miles, with an optional 2nd loop on Waban Ave bringing the total to approximately 2.8 miles. In order to be guaranteed a Fun Run race-day t-shirt, you must PRE-REGISTER for the Fun Run no later than today, Sunday, May 3rd. If you are interested in hosting a vendor table at the Waban Village Day event, register by clicking HERE. Both adults and kids are encouraged to participate.

Honor Thy Teacher is a fantastic way to show appreciation to the staff and educators who make such an impact on their student’s lives. With no minimum donation, it is accessible to everyone and truly appreciated by teachers. Teachers get a car magnet and you’ll see them driving around with their multiple years honored displayed proudly.
