From the Principal Message

Angier in ActionWeek of May 11th, 2025

GREETINGS!

thank you!

Dear Angier Families,

We certainly felt the love last week. Thank you to our fantastic PTO for the special treats and the delicious, beautifully prepared Teacher Appreciation lunch on Wednesday! We feel your care and support in so many ways, and we are so grateful.

It was incredible to see so many families on Friday for the World Cultures Celebration – thank you to the PTO for bringing this wonderful event back after many years. While the weather was dreary outside, the cafeteria was alive with color, music, laughter, family, dance, food, and connection. It was a joyful evening that captured so much of the spirit of Angier – our vibrant, diverse, and welcoming community.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and mom figures in our community. Have a great week ahead!

Warmly,

Orla

MAY CELEBRATIONS & OBSERVANCES

We are committed to respectfully acknowledging a variety of celebrations and observances, ensuring that Angier is an inclusive and affirming space for the diverse identities and experiences of our students, staff, and families. We appreciate you sharing the holidays and celebrations that are meaningful to your family; you may continue to do so HERE.

May brings a number of meaningful holidays that many Angier families celebrate. We hope that those observing Cinco de Mayo enjoy a joyful celebration of unity and culture. On Mother’s Day, we send love and appreciation to all mothers and mother figures in our community. We also extend warm wishes to those celebrating St. Cyril and Methodius Day / Cyrillic Alphabet Day or taking part in the Dragon Boat Festival—may your holiday be peaceful and meaningful. As the month ends, we pause on  Memorial Day to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.

In May, we honor both Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month.  The NPS Library Department has curated a selection of resources for additional learning:

Enjoy celebrating the vibrant heritage of both the AANHPI and Jewish American communities!

SPECIAL EDUCATION AWARDS FOR TEACHERS & STAFF

Has an Angier teacher and/or staff member been an exceptional part of your student’s special education experience this past year? If so, please consider nominating them for a Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) Award. The nomination deadline is May 13th.

  • A SEPAC Award recognizes exceptional NPS and out-of-district teachers, aides, related service providers, behavior therapists, psychologists, bus drivers, crossing guards, administrators, BCBA’s and other staff for the role they have played in a student’s special education journey this past academic year.
  • Here’s how the process works:
  • Submit a nomination through the nomination form. All celebratory nominations will be recognized
  • The week of June 16th, your nominee will receive:
  • An email with the kind words you wrote about them and a short slideshow of anonymized nominations lifting up the good work taking place across the district.
  • A printed SEPAC Award certificate delivered to their school.
  • Each principal will receive a list of nominees from their school.

Thank you for your help recognizing the exceptional teachers and staff who work so hard to support special education students. Any questions, please email newtonspecialeducationawards@gmail.com

NEWTON’S S.P.A.C.E CAMP

Newton’s S.P.A.C.E.  is a four-week summer enrichment program run by the Newton Public Schools from July 7th  through July 31st.  This year, it will be held at Angier. Students entering kindergarten through 9th grade in the Fall of 2025 are eligible to attend.  We offer two programs – an upper camp (entering 5th-9th grade) and a lower camp (entering kindergarten- 4th grade).

LOWER CAMP – Campers are assigned to age appropriate classes taught by two licensed teachers.  Teachers create project-based activities that focus on the theme of the lower camp.  Last summer, the theme was “Summer Olympics”.  Campers learned about the history, countries, cultures, and sports of the Olympics.  Lower Campers will also attend various specials throughout the week led by certified staff, which include Physical Education, Yoga/Mindfulness, Art and Science classes.

UPPER CAMP –  Campers will create their own schedules by choosing from a variety of electives to design their own camp program.  Elective choices include studio and digital arts, performing arts, athletics, STEM, music, and language arts classes.

Check out the S.P.A.C.E.website  for more information or REGISTER NOW!
