Live Vehicle Drop-Off Blue Zone

Is the Live Vehicle Drop-Off  Zone Right for Your Family?

The Live Vehicle Drop-Off Blue Zone, the area of the Angier driveway where the curb is painted blue, is an active drop-off zone and it may not a good fit for all families. Live drop-off through our car line is an arrival option we offer to help parents/caregivers get on their way quickly. If you choose to drop your child off by car, you may pull up between 8:05-8:20AM. Angier Interns will be available to assist children out of the car on the right side, by the sidewalk. Please consider the following questions to decide if the Blue Zone is a fit for your family.

    • Does your child require help to open and shut the curbside car door?
    • Does your child need “one last hug” before going into the building?
    • Does your child resist getting out of the car quickly at live drop-off?
    • Does your child need help to unload and/or carry belongings into the building?
(backpack, musical instruments, snow gear, etc.)

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, or if you find yourself getting out of your car for any reason during live drop-off, the Blue Zone is probably not right for you.

Each of the above scenarios causes congestion in the Blue Zone, which then backs up traffic flow on Beacon Street and increases the potential for an accident or someone getting hurt. If your child is unable to independently exit the car, please park nearby and walk your child to school. Parking on neighboring roads, utilizing the school bus, or walking to school may better allow you to address your child’s needs and maintain safety for all children and drivers.

Rules:

If you choose to use Live Drop-Off in the Blue Zone, the following rules apply:

  • Pull vehicle up as far as possible along the blue curb, without blocking buses or
    crosswalk
  • Adults must remain in vehicle – no exceptions
  • Children exit quickly and independently on the passenger/curb side of the
    vehicle
  • Once your child is out of the car, immediately follow the line of cars exiting –
please do not wait to watch your child make her/his way into the school
  • Never leave a car unattended – live or not – in the blue zone
  • Do not use the Visitor Parking spots for live drop-off

Live drop-off is an option that Angier offers to help parents get on their way quickly and efficiently. The PTO, along with the Newton Traffic Department and the NPD, evaluate the functionality of this arrival procedure throughout the year. It’s really all about safety and if that becomes compromised then the school will not be able to offer it as an option. Don’t be the bad apple in the cart to ruin it for everyone. Please respect the rules as well as your fellow Angier community members and keep everyone safe.

How can you make live drop-off more safe?

  • Please send caretakers (nannies, babysitters, and grandparents) a link to this page — and have a conversation with them about what the Live Drop-off Zone is and why following the rules is important for everyone’s safety.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping to keep everyone safe!
